Stories @ TCAT

On Friday, February 26, 2016, several of our TCAT Knoxville Student Government Representatives attended a Tennessee Board of Regents Leadership conference.  The conference centered on awareness for sexual assault and domestic violence both on and off campuses across the country.  It was brought to our attention that one in four college women are victims of sexual assaults each year. Those are just the cases reported by students. These crimes are not experienced by females alone, 3% of college men have reported being victims of these acts.  Sexual assault is an epidemic that can be stopped by taking simple actions like being aware of your surroundings. Bystander intervention is also a simple action and an easy way to possibly save a life. If you see any suspicious acts, do not be afraid to speak up. Together we can protect our friends and family from becoming victims of sexual assault. If you or someone you know have any questions, or are suffering from sexual or domestic violence, please reach out to one of our counselors or call the Knoxville Sexual Assault Crisis Center at (865) 522-7273.  For more information on how to become part of the Bystander Intervention, visit TNCoalition.org.
