Regular Full-time, Pay Grade 35, $11.52 BASE

 

Duties/Responsibilities:
The Senior Heavy Equipment Operator is a member of the Facilities Services team. The employee in this position will work work in the maintenance, repair, renovation and construction of campus landscape, grounds, and underground utilities. The Senior Heavy Equipment Operator position is proficient at operating excavators, backhoes, front-end loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, telehandlers, snowplows, etc. and provides labor as necessary to assist with Heavy Equipment operations and projects. The position will assist training heavy equipment operators with less experience. Duties for this position will also include routine equipment maintenance and assistance with equipment repairs.

 Qualifications
 Minimum/Required Qualifications (include education, experience, skills & abilities, licenses & certifications):

• Valid Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License (Class B or better)
• High School degree or equivalent
• Three years minimum experience operating heavy equipment
• Two years experience performing operation of heavy equipment around underground utilities (high voltage, steam, water, communications, gas)
• One year experience setting shoring boxes
• One year experience with snow/ice removal practices and maintaining associated equipment
• Ability to perform proficient operation skills of heavy equipment around underground utilities (high voltage, steam, water, communications, gas)
• Knowledge of proper shoring for excavation of trenches and safety procedures required for safe entry/exit
• Ability to perform hard physical work for longs periods in all kinds of weather
• Ability to read and follow instructions
• Ability to operate all kinds of heavy equipment including excavator, backhoe, front end loader, skid steer, tractor, telehandler, dump truck, snow removal equipment, etc.
• Ability to safely drive trucks of various shapes and sizes
• Applicant must be in good physical health, able to perform strenuous activities and able to lift and carry up to a 50 pounds.
• Applicant must be able to follow instructions, have a positive attitude, interact well with others in a team environment and follow the departmental attendance policy.
