Stories @ TCAT

CLINTON, Tenn. — Thirteen graduating seniors spent their recent “virtual day” taking a hands-on step toward their futures as they toured the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Knoxville’s Anderson County campus.

Rather than logging in from home, the students used the day to explore the campus, finalize enrollment steps, and prepare for the transition from high school to postsecondary training. The visit provided an opportunity for students to update their applications, access their student portals, confirm financial aid information, and ensure their FAFSA documentation had been received.

High school counselors and TCAT staff assisted students throughout the process, answering questions and helping them navigate the final steps before enrollment. For many of the seniors, the experience made their post-graduation plans feel official.

Several of the students will begin classes at TCAT Knoxville as early as this summer. They plan to pursue high-demand career pathways including HVAC, Welding, Machine Tool Technology, Industrial Maintenance, and Diesel Powered Equipment Technology.

“These students are stepping confidently into careers that are essential to the strength of our local workforce,” said Sally Porter, Vice President of Strategic Impact and Workforce and Anderson County Higher Edcuation Center campus coordinator. “Our programs are designed to move students directly into high-skill, high-demand jobs that support families and strengthen Anderson County’s economy. We build careers.”

The group represents the next generation of skilled trades professionals in Anderson County. Many will participate in SkillsUSA, further developing their leadership abilities and technical skills while representing their programs in competition.

As graduation approaches, these thirteen seniors are not only closing one chapter, they are preparing to open another. With summer enrollment on the horizon, their journey toward in-demand careers is already underway at a college where the mission is clear: We Build Careers.
