TCAT Knoxville is proud to announce its outstanding performance at the recent SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Competition held in Chattanooga, TN.

The event concluded April 17 after the awards ceremony showcased the remarkable talent and dedication of students in various technical and leadership fields from the automotive service and refinishing industry to welding sculpture and fabrication and everything in between.

TCAT Knoxville secured a gold "Chapter of Distinction" award, which is given to SkillsUSA chapters that define excellence and are recognized as the model for other chapters to emulate.

In addition to this, the college took home two gold medals, five silver medals, and seven bronze medals. The awards received by TCAT Knoxville students are as follows:

  • GOLD in Technical Computer Applications- Isaac Corum
  • GOLD in Collision Damage Appraisal- Tanner Norris
  • SILVER in Powered Equipment Technology- John Reese
  • SILVER in Sheet Metal- Cooper Watkins
  • SILVER in Appliance Technology- Jacob Shockney
  • SILVER in Information Technology Systems – Sam Hazem
  • SILVER in Telecommunication Cabling – Nicolas Corbitt
  • BRONZE in Dental Assisting – Grace Ward
  • BRONZE in Sheet Metal- Lucas Rebbert
  • BRONZE in Health Knowledge Bowl- Olivia Graham, Erin Heidle, Maja Horton, Annie Jarnagin
  • BRONZE in Welding- Coleman Roberts

In addition to this, our very own Nellie Blanton was named the SkillsUSA Tennessee Postsecondary Advisor of the Year! 

These achievements are a testament to how much our students are dedicated to not only their education, but to becoming skilled, career ready professionals who lead in their chosen field.

President Kelli Chaney said, regarding this incredible success, "SkillUSA provides the framework for student success. The willingness of students to step out of their comfort zone to compete on a state and national level shows true grit and confidence in the skills they have  learned here. The opportunity for TCAT Knoxville instructors to showcase their talented students is inspiring and demonstrates leadership beyond the classroom and shops. Our students are destined for life long careers in the skilled trades."
