Summary

American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking ONE Facilities Project Management Member to assist with FMSS, PMIS and other project related tasks such as project research, putting together project requisition packages, editing existing projects, assisting with project creation alongside the Jimmy Carter Facilities NPS Staff.

Location Details/Description: Jimmy Carter National Historic Park, Plains, GA

The Jimmy Carter National Historical Park preserves sites associated with James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr. (born 1924), 39th president of the United States. These include his residence, boyhood farm, school, and the town railroad depot, which served as his campaign headquarters during the 1976 election. The building which used to be Plains High School (opened in 1921 and closed in 1979) serves as the park's museum and visitor center. Plains is a rural community in Southwest Georgia with full services available in Americus, GA (10 miles); Albany, GA (40 miles); and Columbus, GA (50 miles).

Position Overview:

The ACE Member will work at Jimmy Carter National Historic Park with the Facilities Manager and FMSS Specialist to provide management support to park projects. The focus will be on projects located at the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park but focusing on the Carter Home and Garden.

Duties may include:

  • Repairs/general maintenance of grounds
  • Review of design documents for structure improvements (HVAC, fire suppression, etc.)
  • Provide Facility Management Software System (FMSS) and Project Management Information System (PMIS) support for projects
  • Additional Duties may include conducting condition assessments, assisting with project procurement packages
  • Dark Sky Initiative project

What is the work environment:

It will mainly be a desk position working on a computer though there may be sometimes where they do work outside doing inspections and project research. They will only be doing JICA project work for this position, however there may be sometimes where they may assist on Andersonville items.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Scheduling:

The ACE Member will work full-time, 40 hours a week, from Monday to Friday, ~7am to 3:30pm.

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $600/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. They will also have access to a $600 reimbursable travel allowance to aid in the costs of relocation and commuting to the duty station.

Housing: 

Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. PLC projects also include specific eligibility requirements such as age and citizenship. Please contact ACE staff with questions about eligibility.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Members must be US citizen or Permanent Resident, as required to comply with U.S. government contracts
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request). Plus the Member will be required to complete a Defensive Driving course
  • Willing to undergo and must pass required three-part criminal history checks.
  • Required to pass US Secret Service Clearance for entrance to the Carter Compound.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • They will be required to get themselves to and from work each day
  • ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.
  • Member may not participate in any prohibited activities as listed in the Member Service Agreement or as defined by AmeriCorps

Preferred Skills:

  • Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a minimum of a high school diploma and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as construction trades, use of hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of computers, basic architecture knowledge, and basic maintenance skills.
  • Laborer or maintenance experience
  • Ability to multitask and shift schedule and priorities to meet changing conditions.
  • Skills and abilities to resolve a full range of problems or situations when performing a variety of tasks.
  • Is comfortable working outside in varying weather conditions and at heights.
  • Ability and willingness to do computer work and be able to be flexible to ever changing duties. Must be a team player and a self-starter
  • Deep interest in career in facilities maintenance/management or computers and learning different databases
