Work Description: Performs all types of skilled work related to construction and maintenance of KUB's natural gas, water, and wastewater utility distribution and collection systems. Work will be performed in many different environments and weather conditions.
Responsible for operating all types of KUB vehicles and construction equipment such as, but not limited to, excavators, loaders, and small cranes, in a safe and efficient manner. Uses proper methods for loading, unloading, stockpiling, and storing materials used in many different
pipeline construction and maintenance activities in both public and private rights-of-ways. Learns and applies safety rules and regulations of KUB, Department of Transportation (DOT), and many other applicable agencies. Reads and interprets maps, sketches, and/or prints for
work-related duties as required in order to operate, construct, and maintain KUB’s distribution and collection systems. Responsible for working in a safe manner to ensure personal safety and safety of crew members, employees, and the general public. Works rotating shifts, including stand-by duty, for assigned periods of time on a rotating basis. Subject to be called in at any time due to emergency conditions.
May work extended hours and days in order to restore KUB’s natural gas, water, or wastewater systems.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school education or equivalent with a high degree of mechanical ability
• Experience and/or ability to operate vehicles, equipment, and tools required in the installation, maintenance, and repair of utility mains and services
• Must possess a valid Driver's license
• Must have ability to obtain and maintain a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months
• Good interpersonal skills to professionally interact with customers, the general public, and co-workers
• Must demonstrate critical thinking skills in a stressful environment in emergency situations
Physical Demands: Requires heavy physical work and endurance including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, working in close spaces, operating equipment that may weigh more than 100 pounds, etc. Requires above normal mental and visual alertness. Requires physical and mental stamina to work for extended periods of time during emergencies and in extreme weather conditions.
Working Conditions: Will be required to work a rotating second shift and standby. Works outside during all seasons of the year including unfavorable and inclement weather conditions, as needed. Will be exposed to high noise levels, dirt, dust, and traffic. May be required to wear the appropriate protective clothing and equipment including respirators, boots, face shields, and eye protection. Subject to be called-in at any time. Must be able to work overtime as required. Note: The physical demands described above are intended to relate the approximate physical demands of the classification. Preferred Qualifications
• One (1) to four (4) years of experience in utility construction and maintenance
• Progression though a natural gas Operator Qualification (OQ) program, either through KUB or similar program
• One (1) to four (4) years of experience operating heavy construction equipment, tools, instruments, and vehicles necessary to
perform utility construction
• Possess current Class A Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Knowledge and experience in reading blueprints and engineering diagrams associated with pipeline construction; making
measurements and field sketches; logging construction activities
• Demonstrated professional communication skills; oral and written
• Experience and demonstrate ability to use a computer in order to manage work
