Dental Assisting Program Coordinator/Instructor

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Dental Assisting Program Coordinator/Instructor.

Minimum Qualifications:        

  • BS Degree or higher
  • Current CDA and RDA certification with the ability to maintain certifications
  • Current American Heart Association CPR BLS Certification-Healthcare provider with AED
  • Tennessee Registration with three (3) years of general clinical practice as a dental assistant.
  • TN Certified to monitor nitrous oxide and coronal polish, sealants, radiology
  • Ability to teach and maintain compliance with current OSHA standards
  • Current Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience
  • TN Certified to monitor nitrous oxide and coronal polishing
  • Familiarity with program compliance affiliate Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) (under ADA)


  • The Dental Assisting instructor is responsible for teaching all phases of the State /CODA approved curriculum including classroom, clinical and laboratory
  • Provide students instruction and skills to successfully complete the Dental Assisting National Board (CDA)
  • Monitor, grade, and evaluate individual students’ progress
  • Maintain appropriate student records and submit timely reports
  • Work closely with clinical partners for student participation and graduate job placement
  • The successful applicant must demonstrate a genuine commitment to helping students succeed in the classroom and in the workplace.
  • Coordinate and conduct biannual advisory meetings
  • Maintain relationship with 2nd District and members of the dental community in Knox and surrounding counties
  • Order supplies, visual aids, and textbooks as needed
  • Maintain dental clinic and equipment
